He asked her: "how do you help people feel so alive?"
And she answered slowly,
I take them to concerts and ask them who they go to when they cry. I show them all of the songs that ever made me feel something. I let them discover the color of their own eyes, so that when people ask, the answer is not blue, it is Alaska summers and the swimming pool where they first learned how to swim. I kiss them. I tell them I only wear socks to bed when I'm sad so that they can ask me the last time I wore socks to bed. And I tell them I haven't needed to since I met them.
People learn how to feel alive when you let them know you are alive too, and that you aren't going anywhere when they wake up.
