I wanted to share the poem that my friend Emma wrote about the prompt words we shared-- "Yellow" and "Tangled." One of my favorite ways to write is just going off of random pretty words. It's also so big for me having people to get feedback from on my poetry. I love friendships where they are open to letting me read their writing, and Emma is so sweet and open about sharing with me. I asked if I could post a couple of poems of hers on here for you to read!
Tangled
by Emma Rybin
The clouds were tangled.
Over each city and around the moon.
And this night, I was tangled too.
My hair was twisted, matted, and dirty.
My toes unable to find the perfect position to lay.
But most of all my mind.
Now, a while back I lost the brakes to my heart.
But tonight, I lost the brakes to my mind.
I became tangled as my mind was cluttered.
My thoughts travel back.
I saw your smile, and the rays of the yellow sun through your hair.
I saw your eyes, gentle with concern.
I tried my best to focus on the sun.
On anything yellow.
I noted the yellow spray paint covering the grass and leaking to the sidewalk.
Traveling forward now,
I see the clouds are still tangled.
And I realize, you stole the brakes to both my heart and my mind.
So this night, while the clouds are tangled,
I am tangled by you.
The Keeps
by Emma Rybin
I keep checking your blog with the knowledge nothing else is there.
I keep laying on your bed just to smell your pillows.
I keep listening to your music to imagine us singing together.
I keep listening to your voice on videos to wonder if it sounds different now.
And I can't stop myself.
And I can't go without a thought of you each day.
The pain was inevitable,
But it was never supposed to come,
like this.
