MOON SAND

For my Dad

There is a girl, Tracy Cernan, whose name is written on the moon.

And maybe she never did anything extraordinary, but that didn't matter

because her dad thought she was the world.

So he left reality for her

and found her a new place, and he labeled it for her,

in gray sand that will hold onto her forever.

In a way, I think the moon belongs to her,

and to every daughter who has a dad who loves her enough to leave

and come back as a better person.
