I remember a hundred times I wanted to and only one that I actually tried.
I packed up my duffle bag and walked out the front door
(1. Don't use the front door.)
I crashed down the steps and dared the world to watch me.
(2. Don't crash, this is about you, not the people who see you.)
I didn't even make it past the drive way before my mom was shouting at me to come back.
(3. Wait until you have a getaway car.)
I didn't fight back, I just turned around
(4. Don't give up too soon.)
She said I wasn't allowed to run away
that is the point, I thought, the kids who are allowed to run away, never do.
I'm eighteen now and I still want to run away sometimes,
but I'm still too afraid to ever do that,
I'm still not allowed.
(5. Come back.)
